It’s no secret that I enjoy brews with my blues, so I thought I’d take a post to let you know about my favorite “hopping” local places, many of which are regular stomping grounds for Tre Powell live shows.
Athens, GA is home to three breweries (and counting), with a thriving brew culture. As a huge foodie and beer connoisseur (I had to use spell check for that word), what better way to relax than to share my music and toast with like minded people at the local breweries? Each are big supporters of my music and some of my favorite shows are when I am spending time with the local fans while enjoying some of the amazing beverage creations that these brew masters come up with.
I had just such an opportunity this past weekend at The Southern Brewing Company’s Single Barrel Bourbon Stout Bottle Release where they paired their brew with chocolate from Condor Chocolates and cigars (another personal favorite) from 5 Points Cigar Shop & Lounge. My favorites over at SBC right now are the Cherokee Rose or Wild Azalea, depending on how hot it is outside. You can find the list of those and other brews here. And if you’re looking for some pumpkin for your fall taste, check out BumpkinFest on Saturday!
When I’m not hanging around the breweries, I also try to make it to area hop happy eateries such as The Catch 22 Gastropub, in Athens, and Chops & Hops, in Watkinsville. These are two of my favorite places for a wide selection of craft beers to go with delicious food.
A bit beyond Athens, I try to make it around to see Tiny McClannan over at The Lincoln Fill Station in Snellville, GA, for some good times and great beers. See what’s on tap over there right now. Just recently, The Big Smooth played at the Lincoln Fill Station during their New Belgium Beer Fest (see the pictures here). From that event, I would have to say New Belgium’s Hop Kitchen was my favorite of the day.
You’re also likely to run into me and my music anywhere you see Owen Ogletree’s Brewtopia Events locally. If you’re there, take a minute to stop and say hi, drop a tip in the jar, or let me know how you’re liking the music (it’s also nice to hear if you’re reading the blog)!
The brew culture is a close knit group around here, and I’m happy to be a part of that community.
